Remote control for Industry

CASE STUDY

We are presenting in this page the interesting case of a remote control for industrial use.
It can be used in a wide variety of industry fields. The product, composed of two semi-shells, must be water-proof and very stiff.

Product criticities

  • Aesthetics and ergonomics are two central topics for this product.
  • The product must comply with IP66 protection rating
  • It’s necessary to obtain two versions of this product, differing for the presence of a little rectangular slot for locating a LCD display

Solutions

  • Product design is carried out in cooperation with the customer, in order to combine manifacturability and appealing aestethics
  • Choice of materials: the two shells will be realized with a combination of two materials, a rigid part made of plastic and a soft outer layer, made of over-moulded rubber. This will allow to obtain a soft touch effect.
  • With a bi-material manufacturing process, the outer shell is over-moulded on the rigid plastic structure. The two material have been carefully chosen in order to guarantee the best adhesion.
  • Designing a flexible mould. Some components can be easily removed and switched with others, allowing to easily realize the two versions.
RESULT

The remote control is robust, elegant and ergonomic. The soft touch rubber grip has a double functionality: it ensures that the product is pleasant to the touch, and it act as a rubber sealing, achieving the water proof properties.
The mould is conceived so that it allows to produce both versions with reduce setup times for switching between two product versions.
