Wave belt

CASE STUDY

This product is a “wave belt” it’s a plastic shield featuring a wavy shape. It’s going to be applied on rotating parts and shafts of tactors as a security device.

Criticities

  • The object is required to be made out of a very viscous plastic material, with a limited capacity of flowing into the mould cavity.
  • Each one of the waves on the diameter of the product represent ad undercut geometry, which causes significant de-moulding issues.
  • The product must be compliant with the customer’s circularity requirements

Solutions

  • Because of the particular type of plastic material, a special injection system is chosen, featuring a heated nozzle. This allows to make the mould filling phase easier, while substantially reducing the waste of material at each cycle.
  • The internal undercuts of this product can be released from the mould surface by adopting a complex mechanism of movable internal cores, capable of collapsing in order to reduce their radial dimension.
RESULT

The implemented technologies have allowed to realize a non-trivial geometry product, made of a very viscous plastic resin. Nevertheless, the product quality is excellent.
